Big Bend Regional Medical Center offers general and specialized surgical procedures. Many of these procedures are available on a same-day, outpatient basis.
As your surgery date comes closer, it’s a good idea to plan ahead. Outpatient surgeries allow you to recover in the comfort of your own home but it’s helpful to think ahead and make adjustments before your surgery day.
Your doctor will most likely tell you not to eat or drink anything within eight hours of your procedure. You should ask about any medications you are taking. If you are sick, please tell your doctor beforehand, as they may want to reschedule your surgery until you feel healthy. We also ask that you refrain from wearing make-up or nail polish and put on comfortable, loose fitting clothes.
After surgery, let us know if you feel any pain or discomfort. The length of your hospital stay will depend on your ability to drink fluids, walk and urinate as well as the level of pain you’re in. Before you leave, ask your nurse for a list of emergency numbers and post-surgery instructions.
